Annual Congress of Chinese Thoracic Society 2025 Held in Changsha

Distinguished attendees included Academician Zhong Nanshan of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health; Professor Liu Youning of the First Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital; Academician Wang Chen of Peking Union Medical College, National Center for Respiratory Medicine, and the State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Health and Multimobidity; Liu Jiyang, Deputy Director of Health Commission of Hunan Province; Professor Chen Xiaochun, President of the Hunan Medical Association; Professor Li Zhihong, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Central South University; Professor Lei Guanghua, President of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University; Comrade Lei Jun, Deputy Secretary-General of the Hunan Medical Association; Professor Sun Jie, CALA representative, Harrison Distinguished Professor at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and Deputy Director of the Carter Immunology Center; Professor Cristina Braz of the American Thoracic Society (ATS); Conference Chair and Former Chair of the CTS Respiratory Medicine Branch Professor Qu Jieming; Co-Chair and Current Chair Professor Cao Bin; Honorary Chair and President of the Chinese Association of Chest Physicians Professor Chen Rongchang; Vice Chairs Professors Chen Liangan, Li Shiyue, Sun Yongchang, Song Yuanlin, Wang Wei, and Xu Jinfu; together with all standing committee members, committee members, senior pioneers, and emerging leaders of the respiratory community, gathered to share the academic milestone. Professor Li Weimin, Chair-Elect of the CTS Respiratory Medicine Branch, announced the opening of the 26th Chinese Thoracic Society Academic Conference on Respiratory Medicine. Attendees then watched the opening video together amid sustained applause.

The opening addresses were chaired by Professor Chen Liangan. Speeches were delivered by Professor Qu Jieming, Professor Cao Bin, Professor Sarah Rylance of the WHO Global Alliance against Chronic Respiratory Diseases (GARD), Professor Silke Ryan, President of the European Respiratory Society (ERS), Professor Sun Jie, Professor Cristina Braz, Professor Lei Guanghua, Professor Li Zhihong, Professor Chen Xiaochun, Comrade Liu Jiyang, Academician Wang Chen, and Academician Zhong Nanshan, all extending a warm welcome to colleagues and expressing high expectations for the success of the congress.

From generation to generation, members and standing committee members of the Respiratory Medicine Branch have upheld the spirit of ‘shared breath, enduring legacy’. On behalf of the CTS Respiratory Medicine Branch, Professor Li Shiyue paid tribute to the standing committee members and committee members of the 11th term. The branch appointed the former chair Professor Chen Rongchang as honorary chair and invited six former standing committee members—Professor Wang Changzheng, Professor Zhou Jianying, Professor Xiao Wei, Professor Xiao Yi, Professor Hu Chengping, and Professor Cao Jie—to serve as advisors. Certificates were presented to the outgoing 11th term committee members. The subsequent ‘Remembrance & Tribute’ address and ‘Youth Voices in Bloom’ segment brought the opening ceremony to a rousing climax.

This year’s conference is themed around ‘Empowering the Development of Respiratory Medicine through Smart Healthcare; Enhancing Diagnostic and Therapeutic Capacity through Technological Innovation’. The conference aims to establish a high-level, forward-looking exchange platform. Renowned experts from China and abroad spanning respiratory medicine, artificial intelligence, and medical engineering will engage in in-depth discussions on the latest advances, practical experiences, and future trends in the deep integration of smart healthcare and respiratory medicine. Each subspecialty group has also prepared high-caliber, clinically practical, and forward-looking lectures and research reports, emphasizing that the Respiratory Annual Meeting remains the leading academic event in the field of respiratory medicine of China.
