2nd China Pneumonia Congress (CAPC 2025)

Advancing Innovation in Pneumonia Care and Exploring a New Chapter in Infectious Disease Prevention and Control —The 2nd China Pneumonia Congress (CAPC 2025) Concludes Successfully

From May 16 to 18, 2025, Chongqing hosted a major academic gathering in the field of respiratory medicine. Jointly organized by the China Association for International Exchange and Promotion of Healthcare (CAIEPH) and the China–Japan Friendship Hospital (National Center for Respiratory Medicine), the 2nd China Pneumonia Congress (CAPC 2025) opened in grand fashion. Under the theme “Scientific Research Driving Innovation in Pneumonia Diagnosis and Treatment,” the congress brought together medical experts from China and abroad, establishing a high-level platform for academic exchange and international collaboration.

The congress featured one main venue, 11 parallel sessions, and 103 scientific topics, offering multi-dimensional and comprehensive discussions on pneumonia-related diagnosis and treatment. A total of 104 renowned national experts delivered cutting-edge academic presentations; 67 session chairs ensured high-quality scientific exchange; 20 experts participated in in-depth panel discussions; and 1,148 delegates attended the congress.

More than 20 international experts from organizations such as APEC and the World Health Organization (WHO) were also invited to participate. They shared experiences in emergency responses to public health events, exchanged the latest advances in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term health impacts of respiratory infectious diseases, and explored how international guidelines can be translated from global recommendations into effective national actions—contributing diverse perspectives to global public health development.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony was co-chaired by Professor Li Qi from Xinqiao Hospital ARMY Medical University and Professor Guo Shuliang from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, setting the stage for the congress.

Congress Chair Professor Cao Bin, Academician Wang Chen (via video address), and Academician Bian Xiuwu each shared perspectives on future directions in pneumonia diagnosis, treatment, and infectious disease prevention and control, helping to build consensus across the field.

Mr. Wang Xiaomin, Vice President and Secretary-General of CAIEPH, delivered remarks on behalf of the organizers, emphasizing CAIEPH’s long-standing commitment to building platforms for international medical exchange and cooperation and advancing the development of China’s healthcare system. He noted that through sharing the latest global research findings, clinical experience, and cutting-edge technologies, CAPC aims to address key challenges in pneumonia prevention and treatment and further elevate the overall standard of pneumonia care in China.

Invited Lectures

The invited lecture sessions offered a true academic highlight.

Academician Bian Xiuwu from the First Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University delivered a keynote lecture titled “Vascular Pathology of Infectious Diseases,” providing an in-depth analysis of vascular pathological mechanisms in infectious diseases from the perspective of modern diagnostic pathology and underscoring the critical value of pathology in emerging epidemics.

Professor Cao Bin from the China–Japan Friendship Hospital focused on “What Constitutes High-Quality Pneumonia Care,” innovatively proposing that “predictable outcomes” represent the ultimate goal of quality pneumonia management, emphasizing the importance of accurately understanding disease trajectories and formulating scientific intervention strategies.

Professor Li Jian from Monash University, Australia, presented “Treatment of Respiratory Infections Caused by Gram-Negative Superbugs: The Forgotten Corner—PK/PD Is the Key,” offering an international perspective and stimulating new academic thinking among participants.

Parallel Session Exchanges

Academic exchanges in the parallel sessions were also full of highlights. Discussions covered cutting-edge areas including pneumonia pathophysiology, viral pneumonia, diagnosing and differentiating pathogens, severe pneumonia, and sepsis. Experts engaged in in-depth dialogue on topics ranging from basic research and laboratory diagnostics to clinical practice and therapeutic strategies.

Specially designed clinical case discussion sessions brought clinicians, pharmacists, and microbiologists together to analyze disease mechanisms and key diagnostic and therapeutic points from a multidisciplinary perspective. This enhanced participants’ clinical practice capabilities.

Abstract Oral and Poster Sessions

The congress received 333 academic paper submissions. Following rigorous peer review, 17 outstanding papers were selected for oral presentation, while 147 papers were showcased in poster format. These research outcomes vividly demonstrated the latest advances in pneumonia care and infectious disease prevention and control, highlighting the innovative vitality of young investigators and researchers and injecting strong momentum into the discipline’s development.

Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony was co-chaired by Professor Xu Hui from JinFeng Laboratory and Professor Xu Zhi from the Xinqiao Hospital ARMY Medical University. Professor Cao Bin, Professor Guo Shuliang, Deputy Director Wang Yimin, and Deputy Director Yao Xiaohong presented certificates to the oral presentation awardees.

Professor Cao Bin delivered the congress summary, followed by closing remarks from Academician Bian Xiuwu.

The 3rd China Pneumonia Congress is scheduled to take place in Changsha from May 15 to 17, 2026. During the closing ceremony, Professor Xu Hui, Professor Li Qi, and Professor Guo Shuliang, representing the current organizers—JinFeng Laboratory, Chongqing Medical Association, and Chongqing Medical Doctor Association—ceremonially passed the CAPC flag to Professor Pan Pinhua of Xiangya Hospital, the host representative for CAPC 2026. Professor Pan welcomed colleagues engaged in respiratory infection research and practice to gather in Changsha and expressed his commitment to further expanding and strengthening the China Pneumonia Congress.

The successful conclusion of the 2nd China Pneumonia Congress (CAPC 2025) not only provided solid academic support for innovation in pneumonia diagnosis and treatment, but also built an important bridge for international collaboration in infectious disease prevention and control. Looking ahead, CAPC will continue to play a leading role in accelerating the translation of research achievements into clinical practice, as well as striving to enhance global public health services and share China’s wisdom and strength in safeguarding human health with the world.
