On 2nd August, the National Academic Conference on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) 2025, organised by Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA), and themed “Innovation, Integration, and Precision Prevention and Treatment,” convened in Hohhot and was hosted by the Inner Mongolia People’s Hospital. The conference featured keynote addresses by Academicians Zhong Nanshan and Wang Chen of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and brought together over 50 leading national experts, including Qu Jieming, Chen Rongchang, Sun Yongchang, Wang Wei, and Sun Dejun, to share the latest clinical guidelines and research advances, jointly charting a new blueprint for COPD care and a healthier respiratory future.
With a focus on the comprehensive management of COPD, the programme covered critical areas such as early screening and diagnosis, precision therapy, rehabilitation management, and enhancing capacity at the primary care level. In-depth discussions addressed cutting-edge topics, including therapeutic innovations, management of comorbidities, individualized rehabilitation strategies, pulmonary function assessment, and mechanical ventilation technologies, as well as emerging trends in diagnosis and treatment. These discussions sparked ideas and drove disciplinary innovation.
In recent years, China has achieved significant progress in clinical prevention and control of COPD. There have been substantial advances in areas such as prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, control, and rehabilitation. However, notable regional disparities in healthcare capacity persist, and primary care prevention and management remain relatively weak. Accelerating academic exchange and enhancing grassroots healthcare capacity are therefore top priorities. This conference represented both a high-level academic forum, and a pivotal platform to advance China’s respiratory disease prevention and control system. Building on this momentum, the aim of future progress is to overcome clinical challenges, reinvigorate the prevention and treatment of COPD, and help millions of patients breathe more easily.
